Eight Condor student-athletes were acknowledged for their efforts in the classroom and in the community on Wednesday afternoon.
Raul Sandoval (Baseball) 3.86 GPA—Raul if a freshman center-fielder for the Condors and attended Pacifica HS. Raul is a Liberal Arts Major and he is interested in becoming an instructor after he attends and plays baseball for UCLA.
Colin Vallance (Men's Basketball) 3.75 GPA—John "Colin" Vallance graduated from Foothill Tech HS in Ventura. He would like to become an Engineer after attending UC Santa Cruz. He played point guard for OC, and in HS he was named 1st Team All-Conference, and the Conference MVP.
Natalie Maldonado (Women's Basketball) 3.8 GPA—Natalie went to Santa Clara HS where she was named 1st Team All-League and was an all CIF selection. Ms. Maldonado was the Condors starting point-guard as a freshman. After receiving her AA degree at OC, she would like to transfer to UCSB, UCSD, or CSUN. She plans on becoming a Physical Education Instructor or a Coach after college.
Katlyn Acosta (Softball) 4.0 GPA—Katlyn graduated from Simi Valley HS, where she was named as the Offensive Player of the Year for Softball. She started every game for Oxnard at second base and was a WSC Honorable Mention as a freshman. She strives to be a Pediatric Nurse after graduating from CSUN or CLU.
Ronaldo Esquivel (Men's Soccer) 3.74 GPA—Ronaldo came to OC from Oxnard HS. He earned in an AA-T in Sociology, and hopes to attend UCLA in the fall. Ronaldo was a terrific soccer player for the Condors, and He hopes to eventually get his MA and to find new ways to help in his community.
Raquel Razo (Women's Soccer) 3.69 GPA—Raquel Razo graduated from Nordhoff HS. She will earn her AA in Kinesiology and Psychology and will transfer to Northwest Christian University in the fall. She hopes to eventually become an Occupational Therapist, and is very proud of earning two degrees, working two jobs, all while playing soccer!
Kristal Silva (Women's Cross Country) 3.8 GPA—Kristal came to OC from Pacifica HS, where she earned a Scholar-Athlete award and Honors Award. She was Oxnard College's number one runner throughout the season, and was awarded Second-Team All WSC. Kristal would like to attend USC, Stanford, Pepperdine, or UC Irvine where she will major in Broadcasting and Journalism so that she can become a reporter. Krista earned the "Santa to the Sea" Scholarship, ASG Leader Scholarship, and the William and Debra Gohlke Athletic Scholarship.
Vanessa Garcia (Women's Cross Country) 3.27 GPA—Vanessa went to high school at Hueneme and plans to study at UCSD, UCSB, or UC Merced. She is interested in Engineering and was named a Cross Country Team Captain. She received the Edison International Transferring Student Scholarship for STEM Majors and the William and Debra Gohlke Athletic Scholarship.
