The Oxnard College Condors opened the 2026 baseball season with a gritty 6–5, 10-inning victory on the road against Los Angeles Valley College, improving to 1–0 on the year.
LA Valley jumped out to an early 3–0 lead, scoring twice in the first inning and once in the third. Oxnard answered in the fourth, using pressure and opportunistic offense to erase the deficit. Chris Margarella reached on an error with the bases loaded, allowing three runs to score and tying the game at 3–3.
The Condors took a 5–3 lead in the fifth inning when Jacob Stringer drove in two runs, again capitalizing on defensive miscues by LA Valley. The Monarchs responded with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to even the score at 5–5 and send the game into extra innings.
Oxnard secured the win in the top of the 10th inning when Luis Cervantes scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball. The Condors then shut the door defensively to complete the comeback victory.
On the mound, Kaeden Pilanca earned the win in relief, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings without allowing a hit while striking out two. Ahmed Mohamed started the game and went four innings, while Ricky Garcia provided key innings out of the bullpen to keep the game within reach.
Offensively, Oxnard finished with nine hits and five walks. Kekai Adams and Luis Cervantes each recorded two-hit performances, while Margarella and Stringer combined to drive in all five of the Condors' RBIs.
The Condors continue nonconference play this weekend as they look to build momentum following their opening-day victory.
