The Oxnard College Condors delivered a much-needed Western State Conference (WSC) victory on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Moorpark College 8–2 behind a dominant complete-game performance from right-hander Kekai Adams.
With both teams entering the contest tied at 2-14 in conference play, Oxnard (7-24-1, 2-14 WSC) put together one of its most complete efforts of the season, combining timely hitting, disciplined at-bats, and strong pitching to secure the win over the Raiders (8-24, 2-14 WSC).
Adams (3-4) was outstanding on the mound, tossing all nine innings while allowing just five hits and two earned runs. He struck out five and walked two, needing only 109 pitches to earn the victory and keep Moorpark in check throughout the afternoon.
Offensively, the Condors struck early and continued to apply pressure. Oxnard opened the scoring in the second inning when Robert Perez drove in Brayden Ferguson with an RBI single. The lead doubled in the third as Josh Nichter plated William Dalton with a base hit to right.
Oxnard broke the game open in the sixth inning. Dalton delivered the biggest swing of the day with a two-run single, scoring Perez and Jonas Ballesteros to extend the lead to 4-0.
Moorpark responded with two runs in the bottom half of the sixth, highlighted by an RBI double from Cullen Hirtensteiner and an RBI single from Jaydrien Klein-Baker to cut the deficit to 4-2. However, that would be as close as the Raiders would get.
The Condors answered immediately with insurance runs late in the game. In the eighth inning, Ballesteros ripped an RBI double, and Perez followed with another RBI single to push the lead to 6-2. Oxnard capped the scoring in the ninth when Damian Cabrera delivered a clutch two-run single to center, scoring Jacob Stringer and Nichter.
Dalton led the offensive attack, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs, while Cabrera added two RBIs off the bench. Ballesteros reached base four times, going 2-for-2 with two walks and an RBI, and Perez contributed two hits and two RBIs. Ferguson and Stringer each added two hits as the Condors totaled 12 on the day.
Oxnard's patience at the plate proved critical, as the Condors drew seven walks and consistently put pressure on Moorpark's pitching staff.
Defensively, Oxnard limited mistakes and supported Adams' strong outing, committing just one error.
The Condors will look to build on the momentum as they continue WSC play this week.
