COMPTON, Calif. — The Oxnard College Women's Basketball team earned a hard-fought 57–45 road victory over Compton College on Wednesday evening, using disciplined defense and timely scoring to move above .500 at 6–5 on the season.
The Condors controlled the game from the opening tip, holding Compton to just three points in the first quarter and building an early lead they would not relinquish. Oxnard's defensive pressure forced tough shots throughout the night, holding the Tartars to 20.8% shooting from the field and just 1-for-23 from beyond the arc.
Sophomore guard Isabell Moreno delivered a standout performance, scoring a game-high 17 points on an efficient 6-of-11 shooting while knocking down three triples. She added three steals as part of the Condors' defensive effort.
Forward America Chavez was dominant inside, posting a near double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and an impressive six blocks, anchoring the Condors in the paint on both ends.
Alyssa Galelayah-Tapia contributed 11 points, four assists, and four rebounds while going 6-for-10 from the free-throw line. Rosalin Moreno added six rebounds, four assists, four points, and five steals, showing her two-way consistency. Off the bench, Abrielle Regalado chipped in a key five points and five rebounds.
Oxnard shot 33.3% from the floor and capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 18-of-23 attempts (78.3%) to maintain control down the stretch.
The Condors forced 22 Compton turnovers and held every Compton player under 50% shooting. Oxnard's defensive rotations and rebounding were crucial in limiting second-chance opportunities against a physical Tartars squad that collected 50 rebounds.
Compton's Allahya Drakes led the Tartars with 12 points and 19 rebounds, while Marylou Davis added 12 points and six boards. Despite Compton's effort on the glass, Oxnard's discipline and scoring efficiency proved the difference.
"Rebounds and defense made the difference, and some discipline helped us get this important win." Said Coach Ron McClurkin
The Condors take on Citrus College at 5:00 on Saturday in the Nest.
