Oxnard, CA – The Oxnard College men's soccer team opened the 2025 season with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against visiting Citrus College on Friday afternoon at the Condor Soccer Field.
Both teams struck early in the first half. The Owls opened the scoring in the 12th minute when forward Ashton Sangadeo capitalized on a chance inside the box to give Citrus a 1-0 lead. The Condors responded quickly, leveling the score just three minutes later. Sophomore forward Javier Sanchez found the back of the net to make it 1-1, sending the home crowd into celebration.
From there, defenses tightened and the goalkeepers controlled the pace. Citrus keeper Hector Arteaga recorded six saves on the day to keep the Condors from breaking through again, while Oxnard's Jesus Gonzalez went the distance in goal, conceding only the early strike.
The second half featured aggressive play and several cards issued, as both squads pressed for the winner. Citrus' Bruno Flores, Alan Morales, and Alejandro Garcia were booked, but the Condors could not convert on the ensuing opportunities.
Despite Oxnard controlling possession for stretches and creating pressure in the attacking third, the game ended level at 1-1, giving both teams their first result of the year.
The Condors (0-0-1) will look to build on the performance as they continue non-conference play next week.
