Oxnard Opens 2026 Season With Shutout Win Over Compton
Oxnard, CA — January 23, 2026
Oxnard College opened the 2026 season with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Compton College on Friday afternoon, securing the program's first win of the year behind a dominant pitching performance and timely offense.
The game remained scoreless through five innings as both teams relied on strong defense and pitching. Oxnard broke through in the bottom of the sixth when Jiselle Garcia delivered a clutch RBI single, driving in Alizabeth Rosas, who had reached base and stolen two bases on the day.
In the circle, Taetum Bill was outstanding in her season debut, tossing a complete-game shutout. Bill allowed just one hit over six innings, struck out 10, walked two, and did not allow a run, earning the win. Her control and command kept Compton off balance throughout the contest.
Oxnard finished with four hits, highlighted by base hits from Garcia, Isabela Nava, Samantha Cervantes, and Bill. Defensively, the Condors limited scoring opportunities and made key plays when needed to preserve the shutout.
Following the opening-day victory, Oxnard faced a challenging stretch, dropping the next three games as the team continued to settle into the early part of the season. Despite the results, the Condors gained valuable experience and will look to return to full-strength.
OC's next contest is at Rio Hondo on January 28th from 2:30 pm.
